Child development experts highlight motor skills and emotional support
Experts are highlighting key factors affecting children's academic success and physical development, focusing on emotional support and motor skill maturation.
Stanislava Knut from the League for Mental Health advises parents against using shouting, punishment, or humiliation when children receive poor grades. She emphasizes that grades reflect a specific situation rather than a child's character. Instead of punishment, parents should seek the underlying cause—such as misunderstanding the material or exam anxiety—and focus on effort and progress rather than just the result.
In a related developmental concern, physiotherapist Iva Bílková notes that many children are experiencing declining fine motor skills, which can impact school performance. This issue often stems from insufficient physical maturity and coordination rather than a lack of will. While excessive screen time is a factor, Bílková points out that touchscreens limit hand development to just one or two fingers, often replacing the spontaneous physical play necessary for natural development.
