Child electrocuted in Islamshahr park as officials probe tampered power pole
A seven‑year‑old girl, identified as Delsa, died after being electrocuted while playing in Matalebi Park in the veteran‑city district of Islamshahr, Iran, on the night of 10 May 2024. Witnesses said irrigation work was underway and the child was shocked by a live electrical line; her grandfather, who tried to rescue her, also received a minor shock.
Municipal officials, led by Bahon Khodabandeh, head of the Islamshahr Green‑Space Organization, said early inspections suggest a lighting pole had been tampered with, possibly by unauthorized individuals seeking to steal electricity. The incident is under investigation, and authorities warned that any proven negligence or illegal tampering will be prosecuted according to law. The child's father was on a work assignment in Bandar Abbas, and her mother, who is pregnant, was staying at her grandmother's home.
