Child health: Managing seasonal illnesses and nutrition during school starts

As children return to school, health experts are addressing the rise in seasonal illnesses and the importance of proper nutrition for maintaining energy and focus.

Pediatrician Tamás Bense notes that the increase in autumn illnesses is not caused by temperature drops alone, but rather by the return to crowded community settings. Increased close contact in classrooms facilitates the spread of respiratory viruses. Experts advise that children with fevers should remain at home until they have fully recovered to prevent further transmission.

To support children during these transitions, nutritionists emphasize the importance of balanced school snacks. To avoid blood sugar fluctuations that lead to fatigue and inattention, snacks should ideally consist of slow-releasing carbohydrates, high-quality proteins, healthy fats, fresh fruits, and vegetables, accompanied by water or sugar-free tea.
