Child psychiatry experts call for social services cooperation

Child psychiatry professors Elisabeth Fernell and Christopher Gillberg are calling for increased interdisciplinary cooperation within the Swedish social services. They argue that while the healthcare sector utilizes team-based approaches involving doctors, nurses, psychologists, and therapists, the social services lack a similar structured collaboration with relevant professional experts.

The authors emphasize that such cooperation is essential when making decisions regarding children and adolescents, many of whom present with neurodevelopmental or neuropsychiatric difficulties. They hope their advocacy will lead to improved interventions for youth and their families through better professional integration.
