Child welfare and inclusion initiatives in Dominican Republic
In the Dominican Republic, recent efforts have focused on child welfare and social inclusion. The Fundación Nido para Ángeles held its ‘Ángeles sobre Ruedas’ event at Parque Iberoamericano, a family-oriented day designed to promote the inclusion of children and youth with cerebral palsy. The initiative included recreational activities and a 1,000-meter course intended to raise funds for specialized education, rehabilitation, and family support programs for 30 participants.
Separately, UNICEF has raised alarms regarding child discipline in the country. Data from the ENHOGAR-MICS 2025 survey indicates that 54.9% of children aged 1 to 14 have experienced some form of violent discipline. In response, UNICEF organized sessions with journalists and community leaders to challenge social norms that justify physical and psychological punishment, advocating instead for upbringing methods based on respect and the protection of children's rights.
