Child welfare and pregnancy concerns reported in Mexican states

In Querétaro, the State DIF (SEDIF) has placed seven minors under authority protection this year due to child labor at street intersections. Manuel Hernández Rodríguez, state prosecutor for the protection of children and adolescents, noted that most of these children originate from the Amealco municipality or the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca. Currently, the DIF provides care for 264 minors in Day Centers and approximately 350 in Child Care Centers, primarily serving children of informal commerce workers.

In Coahuila, reports indicate a persistence of pregnancies among girls under 15. Between January and August 2026, the Procuraduría para Niños, Niñas y la Familia (Pronnif) identified 121 such cases, including four involving 12-year-olds. Recent incidents include a 13-year-old in Múzquiz and a 12-year-old in Ramos Arizpe who required an emergency cesarean section. An analysis by Matatena A.C. highlighted gaps in early detection, reporting, and coordination between health, education, and justice sectors regarding sexual violence.
