Children commemorate Hiroshima and Nagasaki with lanterns in Forte Marghera, Italy
On Thursday, 6 August, the Baia del Forte in Forte Marghera hosted a peace‑memory ceremony organized by the Parish of San Giuseppe in Mestre together with the Takayama Dojo. The event marked the conclusion of the first half of the "Estate del Villaggio 2026" summer centre and was timed to the anniversaries of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima (6 August) and Nagasaki (9 August). Children and teenagers released lanterns onto the water, listened to readings and music, and witnessed a dove release. Local officials, including Ermelinda Damiano, assessor for youth policies of the Venice municipality, and Gennaro Marotta, president of the Municipalità di Mestre, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of remembering the tragedies to build a future of peace. Don Natalino, the parish priest, was also thanked for his long‑standing work with the youth.
The ceremony aimed to educate the younger generation about the consequences of war and to foster a commitment to non‑violence and mutual respect.
