Chile achieves historic medal count at Santa Fe 2026 Games
Chile achieved its best performance outside of its home country at the Santa Fe 2026 South American Games, securing 49 gold medals and a total of 175 medals. This result brings the nation within one gold medal and one total medal of its historical record set at the Santiago 1986 Games.
Miguel Ángel Mujica, president of the Chilean Olympic Committee, noted that this success is the result of years of work involving athletes, coaches, technical teams, and federations. He highlighted that the collaboration between public and private sectors has contributed to increased professionalism in high-performance sports. Mujica emphasized that the ongoing challenge is to maintain this level of excellence through long-term continuity and support for future generations.
