Chile activates National Reconstruction Fund for northern regions

The Chilean government has officially activated the National Reconstruction Fund for the northern macro-zone, covering the regions of Arica y Parinacota, Tarapacá, and Antofagasta. This measure follows a decree declaring these areas disaster zones after a severe weather system brought intense rain, winds, and storms starting August 17.

The Ministry of Finance aims to use this mechanism to channel private donations through exceptional tax incentives. The funds will be directed toward repairing public infrastructure, roads, and housing damaged by the storms. Technical teams are currently conducting physical assessments to quantify the damage to basic services and residential areas.

Regional authorities have called for collaboration between the state and the private sector to accelerate recovery efforts. A detailed catalog of specific public projects will be presented to private companies in the coming weeks to facilitate coordinated reconstruction.
