Chile reports growth in non-mineral exports and renewable energy projects

Chile is experiencing significant shifts in its economic and energy sectors. Non-copper and non-lithium exports grew by 12.1% between January and August, reaching $36.012 billion. China remains the primary destination for these goods, while India saw the most substantial growth at 147.1%. The fruit sector also showed strength, with fresh fruit exports totaling nearly $8.2 billion for the 2025-26 season, a 7% year-on-year increase driven by avocados and kiwifruit.

In the energy sector, Chile is advancing green hydrogen initiatives, including the HNH Energy project in Magallanes, which seeks an $11 billion investment for green ammonia production. Additionally, Enel Green Power is integrating battery storage at the Valle del Sol plant in Antofagasta to enhance grid stability. In rural areas like Chiloé, photovoltaic systems are being implemented to reduce electricity costs for water services.

Financially, the Chilean peso has faced pressure, reaching levels near $960 per US dollar due to a strengthening dollar and falling copper prices. Meanwhile, the Santiago Stock Exchange (IPSA) saw a slight rise of 0.61%, influenced by fluctuations in oil prices and copper values.
