Chile advances key infrastructure upgrades, reinforcing Cachapoal Bridge and speeding up transmission lines

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is close to completing reinforcement works on the Cachapoal Bridge in the O’Higgins region, aiming to improve structural safety ahead of the winter season and potential river floods. The project, costing over 6.410 billion Chilean pesos, includes concrete strengthening of pier caps, installation of protective gabion mats and riverbank reinforcement. Regional presidential delegate Susana Pinto said, “el puente del Cachapoal es una vía estratégica para la movilidad regional,” emphasizing the bridge’s importance for daily traffic and economic activity.

In the Ñuble region, the state utility CGE announced that the Monterrico‑Cocharcas and Charrúa‑Chillán high‑voltage transmission lines could be completed by 2027, a year earlier than originally planned for 2028. Governor Óscar Crisóstomo noted that “las obras ya están en plena marcha desde el mes de abril,” and CGE transmission manager Leonardo Morales expressed optimism about meeting the accelerated schedule. The lines will boost electricity supply capacity for households, industry and future investments, strengthening the regional power grid.

Both projects reflect Chile’s broader push to secure essential transport routes and modernize energy infrastructure ahead of seasonal challenges and growing demand.
