Chile advances to wheelchair tennis semifinals and upsets Egypt in handball

Chilean athletes achieved significant victories in international para-sports competitions. In the 2026 Wheelchair Tennis Team World Championships in the United States, the Chilean quad team advanced to the semifinals after a 2-1 victory against Great Britain. The win was secured in the doubles match, where Francisco Cayulef and Diego Pérez defeated Gregory Slade and Andy Lapthorne with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. The Chilean team, the 2024 world champions, will next face the Netherlands to compete for a spot in the final.

In the wheelchair handball World Championship held in Granollers, Spain, Team ParaChile secured a notable debut victory against the reigning world champions, Egypt. After trailing 8-7 in the first period, Chile rallied to lead 9-7 in the second half, eventually winning 5-2 in overtime to seal the 2-1 victory.

Other results for Chile included losses in the women's open tennis division to Brazil and the men's open tennis division to France, with both teams moving to compete for ninth place.
