Chile Agriculture Deputy Minister Francesco Venezian checks food supply in Biobío after storm

Chile’s Subsecretary of Agriculture, Francesco Venezian, led a day‑long agenda in the Biobío Region on 30 July to ensure food‑supply continuity after recent frontal weather systems. He attended the XXI Regional Meeting of Technology Transfer Groups (GGT) Biobío 2026, where agriculture specialists discussed sustainability and innovation, and he toured the Vega Techada in Los Ángeles – the province’s main fruit‑and‑vegetable distribution hub – to monitor market conditions.

Venezian also inspected a 582‑metre irrigation canal upgraded with a 74.9 % national irrigation commission subsidy and visited an INDAP‑supported horticulture producer to assess damage from the rains. He reported that markets remained operational, with normal supply despite price fluctuations in onions, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and leafy greens, while citrus prices stayed stable. Local producers praised the visit, noting that supply chains are stabilising after temporary truck disruptions.

The deputy minister highlighted the role of long‑standing regional mechanisms, such as the Los Ángeles fruit and vegetable community centre, in keeping prices affordable and ensuring rapid product flow to consumers.
