Chile and Argentina advance carbon market development

Public and private sectors in Chile and Argentina are exploring the development and opportunities of carbon markets.

In Chile, the “Mesa Público-Privada de Mercados de Carbono y Competitividad” has established a work agenda to strengthen the country's carbon ecosystem. This initiative, involving the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Economy, focuses on six priority axes to improve regulation, capacity, and market conditions. The goal is to transform carbon markets into an investment lever that helps Chilean companies meet international market requirements and national climate goals.

In the Misiones province of Argentina, the Chamber of Representatives held a meeting to analyze carbon project certification and the economic opportunities available to local producers. Discussions focused on using carbon footprints and credits to diversify income for producers, particularly as traditional sectors like yerba mate face challenges, while simultaneously promoting environmental preservation.
