Chile and Argentina advance Pacific logistics and energy corridors

Regional authorities and governments in Chile and Argentina are advancing strategic logistics and energy integration projects to strengthen trade corridors toward the Pacific and Asia.

In Chile, the Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) has introduced a Regional Logistics Policy proposal spanning until 2050. The plan aims to transform Iquique into a major Pacific hub by integrating the port, the Diego Aracena Airport, and the Zofri free trade zone. The strategy focuses on ‘last mile’ connectivity, coordinating infrastructure between roads and maritime facilities to optimize international trade.

Simultaneously, Argentina and Chile are negotiating an energy corridor to export gas from the Vaca Muerta formation to Asian markets. The project envisions using Chilean port terminals for the processing, storage, and shipment of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). This integration seeks to establish common commercial rules and integrated hydrocarbon transport networks, potentially diversifying Chile's energy supply while providing Argentina with a direct maritime exit to the Pacific.
