Chile and Ecuador municipalities boost community security programs

The municipality of Dalcahue in Chile held a joint workshop with officials from the neighboring municipality of Maullín to share tools for preventive and community‑based public safety. Participants reviewed a platform that combines crime georeferencing, shared video surveillance, priority communication channels and secure reporting mechanisms. Municipal administrator Fernando Ruíz Portilla highlighted the value of collaborating with municipalities that have successful security models, while Maullín’s cabinet chief Manuel Contreras emphasized the importance of joint technical experiences.

In Ecuador’s Chimborazo province, police carried out a preventive outreach in the San Martín de Veranillo neighborhood. Officers trained about 100 residents on personal and home‑theft prevention and introduced a QR‑code reporting system that lets citizens quickly submit crime tips. Authorities said the initiative will be repeated in other sectors to strengthen neighborhood safety and community‑police cooperation.
