Chile and Grenergy partner to electrify vulnerable homes in Antofagasta
The Chilean government and Grenergy have signed a declaration of intent to launch ‘Proyecto Luz Antofagasta,’ an initiative designed to provide energy access to vulnerable households in the Antofagasta region. The project focuses on installing photovoltaic self-consumption solutions in homes that currently lack connection to the electrical grid, specifically targeting the communes of Tocopilla and Calama.
Grenergy will finance the initial phase, which includes a pilot project and a feasibility study to determine subsequent steps. The ultimate scale of the project and the total number of beneficiary households will depend on technical diagnostics and the establishment of a public-private financing model. The initiative aims to integrate the resources of the Chilean Ministry of Energy, the Energy Sustainability Agency (AgenciaSE), and various national and regional public entities.
