Chile and Mexico intensify dengue mosquito control measures
Health authorities in Antofagasta, Chile, have identified ten breeding sites of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the vector for dengue, Zika, yellow fever and chikungunya. The regional health office, led by Seremi Rodrigo Medina, carried out inspections, fumigation and declared the area a "Foco de Insalubridad," urging residents to eliminate standing water and report sightings. No local cases of the diseases have been reported.
In western Mexico, officials warned that the upcoming rainy season could boost mosquito breeding. José de Jesús Segura Arias of the Institutional Health Management urged households and communal areas to conduct weekly deep cleaning, cover containers, and remove potential larval habitats to curb dengue transmission. The public is advised to maintain hygienic environments throughout the wet months.
