Chile and South Korea report significant export growth
Chile and South Korea are reporting significant growth in their export sectors. In Chile, exports between January and July reached USD 70.6 billion, a 15% increase compared to the previous year. This growth was driven by mining, which accounted for 61.4% of total shipments, including copper and a near-tripling of lithium returns. Non-mining exports also rose, led by the food industry, which reached a record USD 8.3 billion.
South Korea is experiencing a strengthening economic recovery fueled by robust exports and improving domestic consumption. In July, monthly exports surged 62.8% year-on-year to USD 98.9 billion. Early August data shows a continued trend, with exports rising 45.3% between August 1 and 10. This surge is heavily supported by the semiconductor sector, which saw a 155.4% increase due to the global artificial intelligence boom. While chip exports and petroleum products rose, automobile shipments saw a decline during the same period.
