Chile Approves Over $1 bn for Rural Water Projects and $212 m for Agriculture Initiatives

The regional council of La Araucanía approved more than 1,031 million Chilean pesos to fund five rural water supply projects in Villarrica, benefitting 1,534 families. The initiatives include design and pre‑feasibility work for systems in Boquipulli Alto y Bajo, Chesque Bajo‑Liumalla, Challupén Bajo, an expansion of the El Sauce system, and the large‑scale Chihuaico project.

Separately, the regional government of Magallanes and the National Institute of Agricultural Development (Indap) launched a 212 million‑peso program to strengthen family farming. The first phase funds 37 projects across Punta Arenas, Última Esperanza and Tierra del Fuego, focusing on greenhouse construction, processing facilities, and agricultural machinery to boost local food production and resilience.

Both investments aim to improve basic services and economic sustainability for rural communities in Chile.
