Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru sign strategic mineral pact

Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, and Peru have signed a joint declaration to strengthen regional cooperation regarding strategic minerals, specifically copper and lithium. The pact aims to promote responsible investment, bolster regional supply chains, and deepen collaboration on technological development, regulatory standards, and geological information.

Chilean Economy and Mining Minister Daniel Mas noted that the demand for critical minerals could increase by 400% to 600% over the next decade, driven by the energy transition and the expansion of artificial intelligence. The agreement seeks to position the four nations as essential global suppliers for industries critical to the green energy shift.

To facilitate this, the countries will establish working groups focused on geological research, specialized training, and human capital development. Additionally, renewed cooperation between Argentina and Chile aims to unlock billions in investment by modernizing legal frameworks and allowing for the cross-border sharing of infrastructure, such as using Chilean ports to service Argentine mining sites.
