Chile-Argentina border crossings report progress and reopening

Construction of the Pichachén border complex in Chile’s Biobío Region has reached 88% completion of its structural works. The project, which serves as the region's primary international connection to Argentina, is expected to be finished during the first quarter of 2027. Current efforts are focused on finishing touches, including roofing, painting, and the habilitation of necessary facilities.

Separately, the Los Libertadores border crossing has begun resuming operations following weather-related closures in the high mountains. After a gradual reopening process, traffic is scheduled to flow in both directions between Chile and Argentina starting Wednesday, October 28, at 16:00 hours. This follows a phased approach where initial access was restricted to vehicles traveling from Argentina to Chile.
