Chile automotive sector reports used‑car market growth and Nissan’s new Versa launch
The Chilean automobile market expanded in the first half of 2026, recording 742,447 vehicle transactions and a 5.6% overall increase year‑on‑year. The used‑car segment was the strongest, with 559,415 transfers—a 5.8% rise—equating to approximately 3.6 used vehicles for every new car sold. Analysts note that the larger share of used cars highlights the need for clearer guidance on maintenance and spare‑part quality.
Nissan re‑entered the Chilean market under a new importer, Astara Group, which also handles the brand in Peru. The relaunch began on 1 June with the introduction of the third‑generation Nissan Versa, a compact sedan built in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The updated model features a slimmer front grille, revised bumper, LED lighting, and interior refinements, aiming to boost customer experience and sustain the model’s historic sales of over 50,000 units in Chile.
