Chile boosts sustainability with construction carbon‑footprint tool and salmon sector clean‑production certifications

Bárbara Rodríguez, director of the Sustainable Building Certification (CES) and consultant for EBP Chile, announced the launch of the Huella Construcción tool, a uniform methodology for measuring the full life‑cycle carbon footprint of buildings. The tool, financed by Corfo Araucanía and executed by EBP Chile and the Institute of Construction, will provide a simplified carbon calculator to improve design, construction and operation decisions.

The Corfo Agency of Sustainability and Climate Change certified 19 companies and 80 installations that implemented the Clean Production Agreement (APL) “Strategy of Climate Change and Circular Economy of the Salmon Sector”. Executed between 2021 and 2025 by SalmonChile with support from the Fisheries Sub‑secretary and the Energy Sustainability Agency, the certification covers roughly 60% of Chile’s salmon production – about 30% of global supply – and includes targets for emission reductions, waste valorisation, circular economy practices and community relations.
