Chile celebrates Day of Prayer for Virgin of Carmen

Chileans gathered across various regions to observe the Day of Prayer for Chile, centered on devotion to the Virgin of Carmen. This year's celebrations hold particular significance as they mark the centennial of her Canonical Coronation as the Mother and Queen of Chile.

In Santiago, more than 10,000 people participated in a procession from the Metropolitan Cathedral to Plaza de la Ciudadanía, led by Cardinal Fernando Chomali. Similar large-scale religious gatherings occurred in Temuco, where hundreds of faithful joined a procession despite rain, and at the Sanctuary of La Tirana.

The religious observances highlighted the historical role of the Virgin of Carmen, who was declared Patroness of Chile by Pope Pius XI in 1923, with her coronation following in 1926.
