Chile clears illegal encampments in Curicó and San Antonio

In Curicó, a second joint operation coordinated by the presidential delegate Óscar Águila brought together the municipality, state railway company EFE and Carabineros to remove makeshift shelters (rucos) from the railway corridor in the Santa Fe sector. The effort follows earlier removals after a fire and aims to address neighbourhood complaints about disorder and waste.

In San Antonio, Carabineros and government officials resumed the eviction of the megatoma on Cerro Centinela, targeting 40 ha occupied by 853 roofs. The first phase cleared 156 roofs covering 115 families, including 63 men, 52 women, 37 children and 28 foreign nationals, all of whom had been given a 15‑day notice. The municipality opened a shelter for 70 people at Colegio España while the operation proceeds at a rate of about one hectare per day.
