Chile commemorates Joane Florvil and victims of racism
Human rights organizations are organizing commemorations in Chile to honor Joane Florvil and other victims of racism. The events, coordinated by the alliance Justicia y Dignidad Sin Fronteras, are scheduled for September 26 and September 30.
On September 26, the group will launch a training and solidarity manual for migrants titled ‘Caminando para vivir sin racismos’ at the Casa de Memoria de Independencia. The session will feature sociologist María Emilia Tijoux to discuss the dynamics of racism.
The commemorations will conclude on September 30 with a procession starting from Londres 38 Espacio de Memorias and ending with a cultural-political act at the Hospital de Urgencia Asistencia Pública. This is the location where Joane Florvil, a Haitian mother, passed away on September 30, 2017, following discriminatory negligence by municipal, police, and health officials.
