Chile declares agricultural emergencies across multiple regions due to flooding

The Chilean government has declared multiple regions under agricultural emergency and catastrophe status following successive heavy rainfall and frontal weather systems. In the Los Lagos region, the government officially declared a catastrophe zone, allowing for the mobilization of extraordinary resources to combat damages caused by flooding and river overflows. This follows the declaration of an agricultural emergency in specific communes such as San Pablo, Osorno, and San Juan de la Costa.

In La Araucanía, an agricultural emergency has been decreed to expedite aid to producers. Organizations like the Sociedad de Fomento Agrícola (SOFO) are actively delivering forage, such as 6,000 kilograms of oats, to assist small farmers whose livestock face food shortages due to flooded pastures.

The Maule region is also experiencing significant impacts, particularly among small-scale farmers. Reports indicate over 1,000 affected individuals, with damages including destroyed infrastructure, flooded crops, livestock mortality, and losses in the apiculture sector. Authorities are monitoring soil saturation and coordinating with irrigation commissions to manage the ongoing crisis.
