Chile Deputy Alinco Flags Serious Irregularities at Altos del Mackay School

Deputy René Alinco warned that a recent Comptroller report uncovered significant building code violations at the Liceo Bicentenario Altos del Mackay in Coyhaique, Chile. The audit found that roughly 900 square meters of classrooms, bathrooms and corridors were constructed in an area prohibited by the municipal zoning plan, raising concerns about potential flood risks. Alinco urged deeper investigation and accountability, noting that the problems stem from previous administrations and now affect the Regional Public Education Service.

The regional education minister said the school's official recognition remains valid, but the findings must be corrected by the school’s operator, with oversight from the Superintendency of Education. Technical assistance has been offered to develop projects that will address the identified shortcomings, while officials await an official response from the Coyhaique municipality.
