Chile detains teens after firearm seizure in Iquique and knife assault at Panquehue school
Carabineros in Iquique stopped a vehicle late Tuesday night and discovered a Girsan pistol loaded with 13 rounds. The three occupants – two women aged 16 and 22 and a 21‑year‑old man, all Chilean and with prior records – were arrested for illegal firearm possession and placed before the local guarantee court.
Earlier that morning in the town of Panquehue, a 15‑year‑old student assaulted a municipal official at the Bicentennial High School, striking the official and then drawing a knife about 29 cm long. The teenager was subdued, both he and the injured official were taken to a health centre for treatment, and the knife was seized. The case has been handed to the Public Ministry for further investigation.
