Chile diesel prices rise 36.8% amid global supply constraints

Diesel prices in Chile have increased by 36.8% during 2026, while gasoline has risen by 20.8%. This surge is attributed to international supply restrictions caused by conflicts in the Middle East and global refining capacity challenges. As of October 8, the average diesel price reached approximately $1,497 per liter.

The rising fuel costs pose a risk to the Chilean economy, particularly affecting the transport, agriculture, construction, and mining sectors. Economists warn that these increases may progressively raise the costs of food and raw materials, contributing to inflationary pressures.

In September, consumer prices in Chile rose by 0.4%, which was slightly lower than the 0.5% median forecast by analysts. Annual inflation stood at 4.1%. While energy costs rose by 1.9% in September, the Central Bank of Chile expects annual inflation to decelerate toward its 3% target by the second quarter of 2027.
