Chile Electricity Subsidy to benefit 1.9 million households
Chile has announced the results of the fifth call for the Electricity Subsidy, a social benefit designed to reduce electricity costs for vulnerable families. A record 1,926,830 households nationwide will receive the benefit during the second half of 2026. The subsidy will be distributed in six monthly installments, with the first discounts appearing on electricity bills in August 2026.
Regional data shows significant coverage across several areas. In the Los Ríos region, over 58,000 households are beneficiaries, including 6,800 new participants. The O’Higgins region includes 121,802 beneficiary households, with 13,962 joining for the first time. In the Maule region, 178,134 households are set to benefit, adding 19,130 new families to the program.
Demographic analysis of the beneficiaries indicates that 69% of the households are led by women, 52% include elderly adults, and 66% include children or caregivers. The program is supported by the ‘Ordenemos La Cuenta’ law, which aims to provide sustained relief to the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
