Chile eliminated from Davis Cup after 0-4 loss to Spain

Chile's national tennis team was eliminated from the Davis Cup after a 0-4 defeat against Spain in the final qualifying round. The loss prevents Chile from advancing to the Final 8 tournament in Bologna, Italy.

Individual match results included Alejandro Tabilo losing to Daniel Merida, Cristián Garín falling to Rafael Jodar, the doubles pairing of Tabilo and Barrios losing to Munar and Martínez, and Matías Soto losing to Martín Landaluce. Due to the loss, Chile must compete in the qualifiers again next year, with potential opponents including nations such as Belgium, Austria, Canada, Great Britain, Argentina, the United States, or Australia, depending on the November draw.

Sergio Elías, former official of the Chilean Tennis Federation (Fetech), noted that while the ranking difference between the Spanish and Chilean players justified the score, internal administrative instability within Fetech likely impacted the team. He stated that players and staff, including Nicolás Massú, experienced uncertainty due to leadership tensions that were only resolved weeks before the competition.
