Chile expands digital inclusion: seniors certified in Valparaíso and students trained as digital wellbeing leaders

In the Valparaíso region, 110 older residents completed the Conecta Mayor UC “Academia Digital Itinerante” for seniors, a program financed by the regional government and supported by the municipality of Valparaíso. Mayor Camila Nieto praised the initiative, noting it helps seniors “connect, socialize and access rights and opportunities.” Participants reported a 75% increase in confidence using smartphones.

At the same time, telecom firm Claro Chile, in partnership with Educomlab, launched the second edition of its “Generación Digital” program. More than 500 students from 43 schools were trained as leaders of digital wellbeing in their school communities, expanding the programme’s coverage by 28% and addressing concerns about online safety for children and adolescents.
