Chile experiences economic decentralization in retail and digital sectors

Chile is experiencing a notable economic decentralization as business activity expands beyond the Santiago Metropolitan Region. In the digital sector, Tiendanube reports that new online stores in regions such as Maule, Coquimbo, and Biobío grew by 60%, 50%, and 45.5% respectively compared to the previous year.

Simultaneously, the physical retail sector is seeing increased investment in southern cities. Major brands including H&M, Walmart, and Dunkin’ Donuts are expanding into areas like Punta Arenas, Coyhaique, and Osorno, driven by urban growth, tourism, and a historical deficit in commercial supply.

In the mobility sector, inDrive is shifting its focus toward the Metropolitan Region to replicate its success in northern Chile. The platform, which utilizes a direct negotiation model between drivers and passengers, currently operates in over 200 Chilean localities and maintains a significant presence in the Latin American market.
