Chile faces high crime worries and low presidential approval

A recent Ipsos "What Worries the World?" survey shows that Chileans rank crime and violence as a top concern, with 56% expressing worry – well above the global average of 31%. Unemployment and corruption also feature among the region’s leading anxieties, though Chile registers lower concern on those issues compared with some neighbours.

In a separate CEP poll conducted between April and May 2026, President José Antonio Kast secured just 34% approval while 52% disapproved of his handling of the government. Confidence in his ability to fulfill campaign promises remains low, reflecting broader public dissatisfaction with security and economic policies.
