Chile Femicide Trial Commences Against Accused Partner of Pregnant Woman
The oral trial began today in Chile against a man accused of a brutal domestic assault that left his pregnant partner severely injured. The attack occurred on the night of 24 October 2025 in the couple’s home in the Población Cardenal Raúl Silva Henríquez. Prosecutors say the accused struck the woman’s head and arms, then tried to strangle her by gripping her neck with both hands. The victim escaped, reported the crime, and medical examinations confirmed jaw fractures, contusions and cervical injuries from attempted hanging.
The local prosecutor is seeking a sentence of 10 years and one day of imprisonment, plus a two‑year restraining order after the term is served. The National Service for Women and Gender Equality (Sernameg), acting as the plaintiff, requested the maximum penalty of 15 years of effective prison time and full court costs.
