Chile Foreign Minister Pérez Mackenna visits Brazil to boost security ties and Bi‑Oceanic Corridor

Chile’s foreign minister, Francisco Pérez Mackenna, began a diplomatic tour in Brazil with a stop in Brasília where he met his counterpart, Brazilian foreign minister Mauro Vieira. The two ministers discussed cooperation on security and defence, as well as sectors such as mining, energy, science, Antarctic research and artificial intelligence.

The agenda also covered progress on the Bi‑Oceanic Corridor, a joint infrastructure project linking Atlantic and Pacific ports that involves Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Chile. After Brasília, Pérez Mackenna travelled to São Paulo for talks with Governor Tarcísio de Freitas and the state’s industry federation, aiming to promote bilateral trade and attract investment. Brazil remains Chile’s main trading partner in Latin America and the third‑largest globally, with bilateral commerce reaching US$12.75 billion in 2025.
