Chile boosts arts with $70 M theater funding and new cultural training programs
The Ministry of Cultures in Chile has earmarked $70 million to strengthen the programming of performing arts at the Teatro Municipal de Ovalle. The investment aims to expand the venue’s cultural offering and support local artistic activity.
A nationwide School of Chilean Film Mediators has completed its fourth edition, certifying 175 cultural agents from across the country after two months of online training and an intensive in‑person workshop in Quilpué. Organisers highlighted the program’s role in building networks and enhancing audience development skills for audiovisual works.
Renowned choreographer Paulina Mellado travelled to Magallanes to lead the third seminar of the Epifanías project, which seeks to professionalise the regional performing‑arts sector through collaborative creation workshops. Participants produced a collective twelve‑minute piece that will later be presented publicly.
In addition, the folk group Colectivo La Chingana is taking its southern cueca on an international tour to Lima, promoting Chilean folk dance abroad.
