Chile health ministry issues food alert for La Rotunda cheese

Chile's Ministry of Health has issued a food alert following the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in a batch of sliced mantecoso cheese produced by the brand La Rotunda. The contamination was identified during routine microbiological surveillance in the Valparaíso region.

The affected product is the 300g package of sliced mantecoso cheese, batch T3180726, with a production date of July 30, 2026, and an expiration date of November 27, 2026. Health authorities have notified the manufacturer, inspected the production facility, and initiated a sanitary summary process while working to withdraw the product from the market.

Consumers are advised not to consume the affected batch. Individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, or diarrhea after consuming the product should seek medical attention. Listeria poses a high risk to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals, potentially leading to serious conditions such as sepsis or meningitis.
