Chile holds commemorations for dictatorship victims in Copiapó and Pisagua

On July 31, families and friends of victims of the Chilean military dictatorship organized a cultural ceremony in Plaza Prat, Copiapó, to remember the thirteen bodies exhumed in 1990 from the "Caravana de la Muerte" that passed through the city. The event featured a photo exhibit, live music, bi‑dance, and a silent walk, highlighting the still‑missing remains of three victims from El Salvador.

Later that day, former student leaders of the Universidad Arturo Prat (UNAP) gathered for a panel titled “La Universidad que Pensamos.” The forum included speeches, a tribute at the Pisagua mass‑grave site, and discussions about the legacy of the dictatorship and the future of higher education in the region.
