Chile hosts First National Congress of Sport and Municipalism

The First National Congress of Sport and Municipalism has commenced in Santiago, bringing together more than 200 mayors, councilors, and municipal officials from across Chile. Organized by the Sports Commission of the Association of Chilean Municipalities (ACHM) in collaboration with Universidad San Sebastián (USS), the event aims to strengthen local sports management.

Participants will address key challenges including security, inclusion, innovation, planning, and the organization of major sporting events. Minister of Sport Francisco Riveros emphasized the need for strengthened municipalities and coordinated management to ensure sports reach all territories. Gustavo Alessandri, president of the ACHM, noted that sport serves as a tool for neighborhood transformation and improving quality of life.

The program includes participation from various institutions, such as the Chilean Olympic Committee and the Chilean Paralympic Committee.
