Chile hosts major cultural festivals in Calama and Ovalle

The municipality of Calama and the Corporación de Cultura y Turismo organized a free National Cuequero Day celebration on July 4 at the Parque de la Cultura José Saavedra. The event featured 23 folk groups, traditional dance performances, live music by ensembles such as Flor de Luna, and a food fair offering empanadas, churros and other Chilean dishes, aimed at honoring cueca legend Hernán “Nano” Núñez Oyarzo and preserving local heritage.

In the coastal town of Caleta Talquilla, near Ovalle, the annual Fiesta de San Pedro was held with a liturgical ceremony, a procession of the saint’s image, live music, and seafood‑based gastronomy. Organized by the local fishermen’s union and supported by the municipal government, the celebration attracted residents, visitors and tourists, highlighting the religious devotion and cultural identity of the fishing community.
