Chile implements debt relief measures under Reconstruction Law
Following the publication of the National Reconstruction and Economic and Social Development Law (No. 21.850), the General Treasury of the Republic (TGR) has introduced financial relief tools for various debtor groups in Chile.
For micro, small, and medium enterprises (Mipymes) and individuals with overdue tax debts, fines, or contributions, a 180-day window has been opened to settle debts or sign payment agreements. Cash payments allow for a 100% waiver of interest and 80% of fines. Installment plans offer a 95% interest waiver and 75% fine waiver, requiring a minimum 10% down payment and allowing up to 48 monthly installments.
Regarding student debt (CAE), more than 74,000 debtors can regularize their situation within a 90-day period. This mechanism allows for the reprogramming of overdue installments without moratory interest or collection costs for those with two or more delinquent payments whose guarantees have not yet been collected. Beneficiaries can manage this through the TGR website or the 'Mi Crédito CAE' platform.
