Chile increases Universal Guaranteed Pension to $250,275

Chile has begun a new stage of its pension reform, implementing a gradual increase to the Pensión Garantizada Universal (PGU). Starting in September, the maximum monthly amount will rise from $231,732 to $250,275 for beneficiaries aged between 75 and 81 years. This increase is being applied automatically by the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS) without requiring new applications or paperwork.

Nationally, this phase affects more than 500,000 people. Regional impacts include over 57,000 beneficiaries in Valparaíso, 23,000 in Coquimbo, 7,000 in Atacama, 6,300 in Tarapacá, 2,500 in Aysén, and 161,000 in La Araucanía. The reform follows a previous increase for those aged 82 and older and is scheduled to expand to the 65–74 age group in 2027.

In addition to the PGU increase, pensioners will also receive the 'Aguinaldo de Fiestas Patrias' in September. This automatic payment is set at $25,280 per person, with an additional $12,969 for each registered dependent. Authorities have issued warnings to beneficiaries to remain vigilant against fraud and to use only official channels for information.
