Chile invests over $1.3 billion to upgrade Lago Verde aerodrome for emergency medical evacuations

The Chilean Ministry of Public Works will spend more than $1.3 billion (approximately 1,300 million Chilean pesos) to modernize the Lago Verde aerodrome in the Aysén region. The project includes resurfacing the runway, improving taxiways and aircraft parking areas, installing a new two‑kilometre perimeter fence, and adding solar‑powered portable lighting for emergencies. An additional $184 million will fund solar‑powered beacons and remote‑activation systems. The upgrades aim to strengthen aeromedical evacuation capability and maintain connectivity for one of the country’s most isolated communities. The works are scheduled to be completed within 180 days, according to Seremi of Public Works Luis Prieto Epuyao and Lago Verde mayor Claudia Valdés.
