Chile issues over 10.5 million apostille certifications since 2016
Since the implementation of the Apostille Convention on August 30, 2016, Chile has issued a total of 10,551,921 apostille certifications. Of this total, 7,870,887 documents were issued by the Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación (SRCeI).
The Apostille Convention is an international agreement designed to simplify the authentication of public documents for use in other countries. Prior to 2016, Chilean documents required a lengthy legalization chain involving the Civil Registry, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and foreign consulates.
In 2022, the process was further modernized through the introduction of online apostilles for 28 types of certificates, including birth, death, marriage, and civil union certificates. This technological advancement has led to 6,942,627 documents being processed online, compared to 928,260 processed in person.
