Chile issues safety alert on Simond climbing tape sold by Decathlon
The National Consumer Service (Sernac) issued a safety alert for Simond KLIMB climbing and alpinism tape, 11 cm long, specifically models 4051175 and 4171656. The defect involves the riveted wire trigger of some carabiners, which could break and increase the risk of a fall, injury or wound. The products were sold in Chile between January 2022 and August 2026.
Decathlon Chile reported no accidents to date but withdrew the remaining stock of 20 units and identified 707 units already in consumers’ possession. Owners are advised to stop using the tape immediately and return it to any Decathlon store for a full refund or a replacement of similar specifications. Consumers can contact Decathlon or Sernac via the email addresses provided in the alert.
