Chile launches advanced training for palliative care and schizophrenia care

The Servicio de Salud Chiloé opened a two‑day “Jornada de Cuidados Paliativos 2026” on 5‑6 June at the Hostería de Castro, offering primary‑care and hospital staff in the region hands‑on instruction in pain management, advance directives, grief support and interdisciplinary coordination. Speakers included leading Latin‑American palliative‑care experts María José Errázuriz and Oriana Vergara, who shared clinical and communication best practices for end‑of‑life care.

In a separate initiative, health professionals from Valparaíso and San Antonio attended a two‑day training on 28‑29 May organized by the Hospital del Salvador’s Unit of Psychotic Disorders, the Servicio de Salud Valparaíso‑San Antonio and the University of Valparaíso’s Psychiatry Department. The program aimed to improve early diagnosis and comprehensive management of schizophrenia in primary‑care settings, featuring case studies, diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies presented by specialists such as Dr. Vanessa Acuña. Both events emphasized continuous professional development to enhance the quality and humanity of Chile’s health services.
