Chile launches Impulso Lector national reading assessment
Chile is launching 'Impulso Lector', a new national census evaluation for second-grade students managed by the Agency for the Quality of Education under the Ministry of Education's 'Chile Aprende y Avanza' plan. This initiative marks the first time in 11 years that the country will conduct a national measurement of reading skills at this level, focusing on reading comprehension, fluency, and precursor skills.
The goal of the assessment is to identify learning gaps early in the schooling process, allowing for timely pedagogical interventions. In response to this new data-driven landscape, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) is strengthening its teacher training through its 'Beginning Teachers Program'. The university offers a specialized diploma in skills and strategies for initial reading and writing to help educators transform evaluation data into effective classroom strategies.
